Banners and rakeback promos

Over the next weeks or so you will see a couple of banners added to the page. Now I am not going to make this blog look like the latest entry in a NASCAR event, but I do want to be able to point out some special offers.

One is the 100% bonus at Pokershare. If you click on the link you will get a 100% bonus up to $300. It is a site that you can make a killing on. I have made over 10k there in less than two months. Plus their tourneys still have some good overlays. Their weekly 25k tourney usually has a 5-6k overlay each week.

The 2nd banner that you will see next week is for justpaysomerake.com. If you sign up for sites through them you will get 30% of your rakeback. For me that means about $1000 a month. They update their stats every day so you can see how much you have earned. The sites that they support are Pokershare, Ultimate Bet, Full Tilt, Gaming Club, XtremeBluff. If you do sign up for them please use the code BILLINGA44, as I will get credit for bringing you to them.

I just figure that my readers should have every opportunity in front of them that I have as well. If you think that is too much please send the comments coming. Take care and good luck!!!!!!

The streak continues at 9 days

Well I played in two tourneys last night after I got back from my son's swim party. The first was the Bluff Poker Tour event at Doyle's Room. They have one of the worst structures on the internet. We are down to 18 people from 93 on blind level 7 and nobody has an M of even 10!!!! Just crazy. I push allin for 4k with the blinds at 400/800 with AQ. I get looked up by AJ and he flops a J and I am out.

The other tourney is the $500 guarantee at Poker Share. It is a $10 tourney and they never get more than 40-45 people. Yesterday we had 44 people and I finished 4th for $60.

All this time I was also playing 2/4 NL and tearing it up. I won nearly 700 playing in those ring games. Overall my profit for the day was $742 which brought my bankroll up to $21,935.

So I have won $9400 with one day left in June. It would be cool to have a 10k month, but I am not going to go out of my way to try and make it happen. Also this weekend is packed, so it will not allow for alot of play other than tonight and maybe Sunday night. I will probably post the results of today's play before I go to bed tonight since I have to drive to Alabama in the morning to watch my daughter perform at a Liberty Day festival. Then I have a live game tomorrow night with some of the guys from the Bluff Magazine Forum.

Good luck to everyone!!!!!!!

Results from 6/28

Well yesterday was an "even Steven" kind of day. I played in two tourneys, a $10 one on Pokershare and a $30 one on Pokerstars. On Pokershare I lost race after race and eventually finished in the middle of the pack. In the $30 tourney on Stars I was in the top 20 for most of the tourney (649 people entered). I lost a big pot when I was allin with AA against a guy who had KK. A king on the flop dropped me to 7th place instead of vaulting me to first. Finally I am sitting in 13th place with 27 left when I get 88 and I raise. I get one caller. The flop is 1062. I bet and he raises. I flat call. The next card is a 3. I check and he checks. Now I think he has AK or KQ something like that. The next card is a 9 and I feel the board has not helped him so I go allin for another 17k into the pot which is now about 35k. He calls and flips over JJ. Oh well, I get $117 for me effort.

The cash game I lose some when I cannot get people off of flush draws that the river fills for them. One time I bet $125 into a $125 pot with one card left. I have an overpair and he has a flush draw. He calls and hits the flush and wins a huge pot.

So overall for the night I win a whopping $35 which puts me at $21,193 overall. Today I have a pool party to go to that ends just in time for me to play the Bluff Poker Tour event at Doyle's Room. I will also play some more 2/4 NL.

That is all for now. Best of luck to all of you.

Relaxing at the swim meet - results from 6/27

Well yesterday my son was swimming like Michael Phelps. At least Michael Phelps when he was 7. He posted his best times in the freestyle, breaststroke, and butterfly, which earned him a first and two seconds at the meet. We did not get home until after 10pm, so my play was very limited. In the 2 hours that I did play I showed a profit of $200 which pushes the bankroll to $21,158.

Tonight I will get to play quite a bit, so we will see if I have a legit shot at a 10k month. I am now $1400 short. It is still very possible, but not real probable.

Question of the day. Which pro will win multiple WSOP bracelets this season. My bet is on Phil Ivey.

Results from 6/26

Before I go to the results of yesterday's play, I just wanted to say thanks to all the people who post and wish me well, or send me email, instant messages, and the like. I truly appreciate the fact that all of you are behind me. By the way, all of you can do this too!!!! All it takes is alot of studying, time at the tables, and constant inspection of your game. I do not possess any innate ability that you don't have in you as well. You just need to make the decision to apply yourself and work at the game.

Now for the results. Yesterday was another good day at the 1/2 and 2/4 NL tables. No really big hands to speak of, just a constant move forward. By the end of the night I was up $573. There were a couple of hands that show how I play differently now than I did a couple of months ago. Here are two...

Hand 1) I have AK in lp in a 2/4 game and I make it 16 to go. Both blinds call. The flop comes KQ9 rainbow. The first guy bets $32, the second guy calls and it is back to me. Now the first guy could be making a play, but the 2nd guy flat calling me scares me and I fold. Before I would have raised or called, but I never would have folded. Both guys had J10 for the nut straight.

Hand 2) I have KK on the button in a 2/4 game and again I make it 16 to go. The small blind calls me. The flop comes A98 all clubs. I do not have the King of clubs. He checks and I bet $30. He folds the hand. Normally I would have checked that down and probably lost to a 4th club to someone holding a low club. Now I stay on the aggressive front and figure that he does not know that I dont have the flush already. So I pushed and won.

These are the subtle differences between winning alot and winning a little. Anyway today is my son's last swim meet so there will not be alot of play tonite. Good luck everyone.

Opposite Day - Results from 6/25

Boy was yesterday weird. I played in three tourneys yesterday and cashed in two of them. One was the 25k at Pokershare where I finished 27th which was worth $250. I tried to double up with JJ and pushed allin which was almost a 5x raise. I was called on the button by A9o and he flopped an ace but I flopped a flush draw. Unfortunately I did not hit the diamond or the Jack and I was out. I then played in the Bluff Poker Tour event at Absolute Poker and lost with KK vs AK on a QJx flop when we get allin and he turns an Ace. Out in 91st. The last tourney of the day was at Pokershare. I finished 5th in their $500 guarantee for a whopping $30 when my QQ could not beat KJ. We were allin preflop and he turned a K. Oh well.

So you would think that based on my cash game play, this would have been a great day? Nope. Nut flush draws wouldnt come and many pocket pairs ended up being folded because a set would not show up. It wasnt a disaster, just a slow bleeding of money.

Overall for the day I finished up $72. That puts me at 20.4k for the year. Today I am sure to get some play in, and hopefully I can turn June into my first ever, and hopefully not last, 10k month of profit. Currently I am up $7850, which is my biggest month so far. Take care, and I will see you at the tables.

Results from 6/24

Well yesterday sure was a day of swings. I only played 1/2 and 2/4 no limit, and I started off well. I was up a couple of hundred when all of a sudden I hit Top Pair vs Overpair hell. That put me down a little when I flopped the nut straight. I managed to get this guy allin on the turn with a board of 678K with me holding 910o and he was holding J9. The river comes a 10, giving him a higher straight. Did I go on tilt? No. I just refocused and starting getting some chips back. Then I won my biggest hand ever, a $1510 pot. I flopped a set of fours against a guy who was slowplaying AA. We got allin on the turn and the river did not bring an Ace and that put me back in the black for the day. I finished the day +807, bringing the bankroll to $20,321. My first time over 20k, and I must say it feels good.

Now to try and stay there. Today I will be back playing some more NL at Pokershare and I will once again try the 25k tourney there as well. I also have the Bluff Poker Tour event at Absolute Poker today. Hopefully I can break through my MTT slump today.

Best of luck to all of you.

Results from 6/23

Well I did get to play for a little while after going out tonight, and it as very profitable. I played all NL, and I finished the night with a profit of $454. That brings the bankroll to an alltime high of $19,514. I am really hopeful that I will break 20k now. The cash game is very solid, and I am making some excellent decisions. When I make some bad ones I occasionally get lucky, and I am avoiding tilt on the bad beats. A great recipe for success in this game.

So I should get some play in tomorrow night, and then I will get alot of play in on Sunday. I will try and keep everyone posted. Good luck to all.

Results from 6/22

Well I was out with friends all last night, so I only could get in about 90 minutes of play. In that time I got very frustrated with 5/10 limit, as twice I lost a hand because I could not push someone off his draw. Once it was a flopped set of aces that was capped preflop and capped postflop but the guy stood in to try and catch his gutshot straight, which obviously he did. Then I flopped top two pair only to lose to runner runner flush. So I ended up losing $200 in my limit play.

In my NL play I won over $500, so overall the profit for the day was $347. That puts the bankroll at $19,060. Hopefully I can top the 20k mark by the end of the weekend. Tonight I am going out with a friend of mine so I wont be able to play until late again.

The question of the day today is how do you avoid tilt in your game? I told you my mantra yesterday. Let me know your thoughts.

Back to the winning ways - results from 6/21

Ok well the bad streak ended at one day. I still got some tough beats, but I did not go on tilt. Every time I had a bad beat I closed my eyes, took a deep breath, and said out loud, "you are a winning player who makes great decisions". It may sound stupid, but it kept me focused.

So I played in a couple of tourneys and had one cash for finishing in 11th place. The other tourney I lost with AQ vs A2 when we flopped an Ace and the river came a 2. Back to closing my eyes and repeating my statement.

In the cash game I was able to win over $400 putting my final total of the day at +$435 overall. The one hole in my game is not laying down TPTK quick enough when it is possible that someone has an overpair. I need to execute that move quicker, especially at the $2/$4 game.

I have plans the next two nights so play will be light if any. I of course will keep you posted to the results. Best of luck to you!!!!

Black Tuesday - Results from 6/20

Well nobody can say that I only do posts when I win. Yesterday I took a huge hit playing at an aggressive 2/4 table. One critical hand was when I limped in with 22 and the flop came 772. An aggressive player bet out, was raised, and I flat called. The turn was a J. First guy checks, next guy bets, I go allin, get called by the original bettor. The pot is now almost $1000. He flips over QQ. The river comes a Q.

Well I know that I should not get on tilt, especially since he had the better hand preflop, but that pissed me off. Well then I run into a spell of nut flush draws that dont hit, followed by TPTK that gets drawn out on. It was not pretty. I am sure you have all been there.

So the net loss was $1,100. I was not happy about that at all. But I will learn (hopefully) from the experience and move on. The bankroll is still at 18.3k which is a good number. So far this month I have won $5700, and I know the number will go up from here. I just have to go back to my solid play.

Anyway I hope reading this you will learn to not go on tilt. Just keep making solid plays and if you start to let your play slide, shut the poker site off and read my blog. Take care.

Results from 6/20

Well yesterday was another typical day for me, lousy MTT results and solid cash game results. I played 3 tourneys yesterday and I did not cash in a single one. The best I did was 15th when the final table got money. Why do I keep playing MTT? 1) I am a stubborn person and 2) I really want to work at it so I can get better. So I paid $38.50 in MTT fees and earned nothing.

I played 1/2 and 2/4 NL cash games yesterday as well and won over $700 between the two of them. If I could find full table 2/4 games I would move to those permanently. Those tables are hard to find on Pokershare. Instead I play a full 1/2 game and a shorthanded 2/4 game. I try to play two short handed games, but that is tough.

I thought I would add a question I received in my email that pertains to the games that I play and my bankroll. Here it is.....

I'm still following the blog and enjoying watching your progress. As a less experienced poker player, I'm wondering why you are sticking to the lower limits even though your bankroll has increased to the point that you could step up? Thanks.

Here is my answer...

I stick with 1/2 and 2/4 NL because I feel comfortable right now at those levels. Keep in mind though that for NL you should have 30 max buyins to play that level. When you drop to 20 max buyins you should drop down a level.

1/2 NL ($200 max) - you need $6,000 and drop back down at $4,000
2/4 NL ($400 max) - you need $12,000 and drop back down at $8,000
3/6 NL ($600 max) - you need $18,000 and drop back down at $12,000

So I do have enough to move up to 3/6, but I am making a good amount where I am now. I tend to be somewhat conservative with my bankroll, but I think that good bankroll management is key to not going broke and making poker a successful hobby or career.

Speaking of bankroll, my bankroll improved $686 yesterday. The new total is $19,422. Today I will play a little but not too much due to the fact that my son swims today.

By the way a special shout out to my buddy Greig who won a seat in the Mansion Pokerdome series. This guy has some solid game, and I expect him to come home from Vegas with one million dollars!!!!!!!

The same old story - results from 6/18

Well I played in the 25k yesterday at Pokershare and I had my best result so far, finishing 49th. Unfortunately the top 33 get paid. I was shortstacked when I pushed on the button with 7h6h after everyone folded before me. The small blind woke up with AcJc and beat me easily. I guess I could have waited, but I figured this would be a good time to steal and my push was over half of each of the blinds stacks. If I was called I figure my cards are sure to be live.

I also played in the Bluff Poker Tour event where I got eliminated when I could not hit one of my 15 outs to win the pot. I played in a 180 man SNG and my AA could not beat J9o and I was eliminated in 53rd. Overall I put in $142 in tourney fees without winning a penny. Good job Bill.

But my cash game was solid yet again. I won almost $500 playing strictly 1/2 NL. So overall the bankroll went up $340. A far cry from the last two days, but a solid day to be happy about. The bankroll now sits at $18,736. Hopefully 20k is right around the corner.

Good luck everyone!!!!!!

Results from 6/17 - Another great day

Well yesterday I played some poker after my tough 54 hole mini golf match with my 7 year old son. I was giving him a stroke a hole and he beat me soundly with the handicap. Time to change that handicap I say!!!!!

I did play some MTT because I am stubborn and I want to break this streak that I am on. Unfortunately I did not break the streak at all. I played 5 tourneys totalling $125 in entry fees and cashed a whopping $10. I still suck, but I am going to play in the 25k anyway today at Pokershare and the Bluff Poker Tour event also at Pokershare. I just feel I am going to break through with a big win when all my cards come together. I was in a similar slump before winning $1080 in a 180 man SNG at Stars.

My cash game could not get any better. Yesterday I won another $1500 playing .50/1, 1/2, and 2/4 NL. I play whatever games are being filled up. I really wish more people would play at pokershare so I can have a steady stream of games there. Oh well.

So the total profit for the day was $1396. My 2nd $1000+ day in a row. That DOES NOT mean that I will go up limits. I am staying put and just going to keep playing solid poker. The bankroll is at $18,397 now. I hope to pass 20k by the end of the month.

Anyway good luck to everyone today. Again Happy Father's Day for all you Dads out there. I am off to go bowling with my son and some buddies of mine. Cya later.

A great day - results from 6/16

Well I had my best day ever yesterday. First of all my lousy MTT play. I played in 3 tourneys and only cashed in one. My three tourneys I went out with big hands each time AKs vs AA, KK vs AA, QQ vs KK. Nothing I can do there as each time I pushed only to see a tough hand.

I absolutely killed the 1/2 and especially the 2/4 NL cash games at Pokershare yesterday. It was highlighted by the biggest pot that I have ever won which ended up being $1050. I limped in with 66 and flopped quads!!!!! I slowplayed them to two aggressive players and just flat called the flop and the turn. When the river came it gave both of them a straight and I bet about 1/3 of the pot and was raised all in by both players!!!!!!! I could not hit call quick enough and sure enough they both had the "nut" straight, but they were killed by my quads.

Overall for the day I won $1,622, putting the bankroll at $17,002!!!!!!

Well I will play more today while I am watching USA vs Italy. Until then, good luck to everyone!!!!!

Results from 6/15 and the BPT

Well first I will talk about the Bluff Poker Tour event. It sucked. I finished 199th out of 296 players when my flopped set of 8s lost to a runner runner Royal Flush!!! Talk about getting killed. I played in one other tourney with similar results. I finished 95th out of 205 in a tourney at Bayou Poker. Fortunately there are cash games, since I have had a horrible run at tourneys.

In the cash games I did just fine, winning about $400 playing a mix of 1/2 NL and some 5/10 limit. I actually had about a $1000 swing though because I started off down almost $600 before I turned it around. But I did not go on tilt, I played solid poker, and the rest took care of itself.

So now the bankroll sits at $15,380. Hopefully I can get to 16k by the end of the weekend. That is the goal. I will be playing alot this weekend, and I will play in the 25k at Pokershare. I am determined to do well in that tourney.

So good luck everyone. For those Fathers out there I hope you have a great Father's Day!!!!

Tuesday, June 13, 2006

Results from 6/12

Well yesterday I played a couple of 180 man SNGs with poor results. I finished 117th and 50th. I keep waiting for my slump to end, but right now it appears to be nowhere in sight. Fortunately my cash game keeps me going in a positive direction. I tried to play some 1/2 NL on Pokershare, but 5 minutes after joining the table everyone left. I moved down to .50/1 NL and had some success. I also played some 5/10 limit and won $150 there, so overall for the day I had a profit of $200 and I reached the 15k mark!!!!

The next two days play will be light unless my son's swim meet gets cancelled tonight. Tomorrow I am headed to play cards with the guys from wickedchopspoker.com. If you have never checked out their website, www.wickedchopspoker.com, you are missing one funny and informative site. Give it a read and you wont be sorry.

Well that is all for now. I really would like to hear your thoughts on when someone is a semi-pro player. Good luck everyone.

Updates from 6/11

Well yesterday I gave the 25k at Pokershare another shot. I finished near the middle of the field. Not good at all. I had to make a couple of tough laydowns, and I just could not get a roll going. I finally went out holding K7 in the big blind with a flop of KQ7. Unfortunately the button had KQ and I could not lay down the two pair.

In the Bluff Poker Tour event I finished 11th out of 40. I served up a bad beat and then fell victim to losing race after race. My MTT game is just not helping the bankroll at all and I am starting to get disgusted with tourneys.

Fortunately my cash game helped me out. I was up $500 at one point when I flopped a set of fives with a board of 5Q3. I bet out $20 and got two callers. The next card was an Ace and I bet out $60 and one person called. The next card was an ace and I checked and the guy went all in for another $60. I called and he flipped over A3o. Shortly after that I left.

So overall the bankroll went up about $300 yesterday, putting the yearly total at 14.8k. Hopefully today I can cross the 15k mark. I will be playing mostly 5/10 limit and 1/2 NL. Good luck to everyone!!!!!

PS Someone asked me when I will consider myself a semi-pro poker player. My answer to him was when I can get my bankroll to 100k. Then I was thinking about it and I figure if I can make 30-40k a year that would make me a semipro. What do you think???

A quick update before I go - results from 6/9

Well I am off to an afternoon of bowling, lunch, and ice cream with my two kids so that I can give the wife a break. Before I head out for the fun I thought I would update everyone on last night. I played a 180 man SNG where I did not cash. First my AQ could not beat 99 and then my 1010 could not beat AQ. Oh well. I also played a $10 SNG where I also did not cash.

However I did win almost $600 playing 1/2 NL. At one time during the session I won my first $1000 pot in a ring game!!!!!!!! Here is the hand history from it....

Anyhow the bankroll is at a new high of 14.3k. Today there will not be much play until late tonight. Tomorrow I am going to take another crack at the 25k tourney on Pokershare. Good luck everyone.

Results from 6/8

Man I hate going on TILT. Unfortunately that is exactly what happened last night. I played in the Bluff Poker Tour event at Full TILT Poker last night and once again I could not cash. I played 3 hands post flop.

88 I flop a set of 8s and lose to runner runner flush
KK vs A10o and the guy gets an Ace
1010 vs 44 when I reraise allin from the button. The original raiser made it 300, I reraise to 1600 and he calls. Flop comes KQJ, the turn is a 6, the river is a 4.

So after that I am playing 1/2 NL 6 man game, and I proceed to donk off $300. I have found out that I suck shorthanded. I am even worse when I am on tilt.

I am now at 13.7k again. I am sure I will rebuild eventually, but damn it sucks right now.

Results over the last couple of days

Well the results have been good actually. I have just been playing 1/2 NL and not much else. Over the past two days I have won about $1000, and the bankroll has just crossed the 14k number. Tonight I will play some more 1/2 NL and also the Bluff Poker Tour event which will be at Full Tilt at 9pm.

If you have not given Pokershare a look yet I suggest you give it a shot. The tourney structure is the best on the internet, and the guarantees sometimes are not filled, especially the bigger ones. Last Sunday there was a 6k overlay in their 25k tourney. Pretty nice. Anyway you should take a look.

That is all for now. Hopefully I can have a good tourney for once and not have to count on my cash game play to be a winner. Good luck everyone!!!!

Weekend recap

Well it was definitely an up and down weekend overall. The good news is that the bankroll has finally cracked the 13k barrier - but just barely. The bad news is that it was about $300 higher heading into Sunday night when disaster struck. First I played the $100+$9 25k event at Pokershare. To be honest I played this tourney like a donkey. I just got involved in way too many hands early and I ended up being too short stacked way too early. Yes I did push all my chips in the middle as a favorite and lost to be eliminated, but it was my bad play early that put me in that position.

Then I started playing 1/2 NL and I was doing well when disaster struck. I get AJ and an aggressive person raises on the button. I call from the small blind. The flop comes out AAJ. I bet, he raises, I call. The next card comes a queen. We get all our money in on the turn and of course he has AQ. That hand cost me over $250. Of course I could have gotten in all my money on the flop, but I am sure the result would have been the same.

So overall the bankroll has just creeped over 13k. I know that this is no where near 100k, but as long as we move up I will be happy for now. Tonight I will concentrate mostly on 1/2 NL, but I may give some 5/10 limit a shot again. Good luck everyone!!!!

Results from 6/1 and 6/2

Well on Thursday we had another stop of the Bluff poker tour. I got knocked out in the first orbit when I was dealt pocket jacks, flopped top set, and lost to a gutshot straight draw. Oh well it happens.

I did play a live game tonight with some of my buddies that I met through Bluff Magazine. I won the first tourney which netted me $125, and I lost in the 2nd tourney. Overall I had left with a nice profit and some more fun with the guys. I really enjoy getting to play live. Those of you who think that online poker is rigged should have seen the hand we had live. On guy had KQ and the other had AA. The flop comes QQx. The turn card brings an Ace and they both go allin. At this point the guy with the set of queens is facing elimination and is upset. The river brings the 4th queen!!!!!!! I guess live poker must be rigged as well.

The online bankroll is sitting at $12,847. Not bad, but I cannot pass that 13k mark. Hopefully I can pass the mark this weekend. Tomorrow is my son's birthday party, but I am sure that I will get to play later that night. On Sunday I have the Bluff Poker Tour event at VIP poker, and then some more 1/2 NL.

Good luck to everyone out there.
