Results from 12/22

Well for the 2nd straight day things did not go so well for me. To make a long story very short including some bonus money (only $15) I posted a loss of $92.65 to drop the bankroll down to $5,252.97. I spent the rest of the night going over my play the last two days. A couple of things that I noticed. 1) My VP$IP is just too high in my losing sessions, the last two days I have been up around 28% which is ridiculously high. Fortunately this is something that I can and will fix. 2) I have been reluctant to drop high pairs when I know damn well I am beat. This is a little hard to fix, but I need to do it.

So I did find a chart to help me with my preflop play. I am going to focus on sticking to that chart for the next week or so and see if that helps. This is the whole reason that I started playing 2/4 before my race officially started. The good news is that overall I am still beating this game to the tune of 2.8bb/100. But I am not happy with the holes in my game so I am looking to improve.

Billinga,

Its good that you can recognize your leaks in your game so quickly, without it costing your BR dearly.

It seems like the only person you will be racing with is yourself, Im sure if you can overcome your leaks that you will make your 100k goal.

Also, If & when you get to the $100k goal, what exactly are you going to do with the $?

currently you are playing 2-4, at what points in your progression do you plan to move up levels?

is there a max level you plan to play at, such as 10-20 or 20-40, or is that up in the air?

You've attracted a crowd. Always nice to have a bit of pressure to help keep you on track.

You are not using a poker calculator. Is that right? I personally have given up playing limit Hold Em because I believe that it's almost like playing a computer. (Because I feel like most people do have them).
So it's not so much the mistakes you or others make that change your win/loss for a session. It's just pure luck with the cards.
Am I being unrealistic to think this? Or is it that you feel that even if you are playing against a computer(s) you can still beat them?
(With bonus $$ and even night can be an up night)

Just tossing this out there because I had a friend that for a few years was very successful playing 5/10 and up online. In the last 6 months or so, it's just gone wrong for him. I haven't spoken to him about it yet but I noticed that he's changed to No Limit when he plays now. I suspect the calculator skins played a part.

Later on!

Wow so many questions, it is good to see that people are actually reading this blog. I will answer them one at a time.

1) PokerBen asked what was I going to do with the money when I got to 100k? I made a deal with my wife that I would take out half the money and use it to finish my basement. My son is looking forward to having a place to hang out with his friends, and I need a place to watch my movies (I love DVDs). The other 50k I would keep in the bankroll and start another project.

2)Someone else asked at what point will I move up levels? Well usually the standard is 300-450 bb (depending on who you ask). Right now that means I could be playing 5/10 but I will not do that as of yet. I want to make sure I can beat the games so instead I will be putting 1000-1500 on three different sites and moving up from there. For the first 30-60 days I will not move up at all. After 30 days I will look and see what my results are. If I am at least 2-3bb/100 at 2/4 then I will try 3/6. Once I get to 3/6 and above I will not move up until I have 400bb at the next level.

3)Am I worried about "poker calculators"? If you mean poker bot then the answer is no. I have seen a ton of bad play (some of it mine lately) at 2/4, 3/6, and 5/10. I routinely use pokertracker to "watch" these games and see who is good and who is not. Hopefully as I move up I can take advantage of that information.

Your buddy can be a victim of just a cold spell. I would not be able to tell unless I could see a long stretch of him playing. I have chosen to stay away from NL because of the huge swings I take there. I know this will end up being more of a grind, but I feel limit is the way to go. I will still play NL MTT. Eventually I will play short handed tables because as you move up in limits it is tough to find a full game, but until that time I will focus on a full limit table.

Great questions!!! Keep me on my toes and good luck out there. I also hope you have a great holiday season.
